Vendor Comments

After ten years living in Asia, I wanted to return home and settle back in the UK to raise my son. Having been away in a far-flung city for so long made me dream of a return to the English countryside - I was looking for a semi-rural sanctuary in which to raise my family. I looked for a village setting and stunning countryside, albeit with access to rail, road and air links, and good schools.

On visiting Blythe Cottage I was drawn to this unique, contemporary cottage - designed and built by an architect - with gorgeous open views across fields at the rear, and set back from the road with privacy, space and a quiet environment.

As part of putting my own stamp on the property and make a forever, modern country family home, I laid limestone tiling (with underfloor heating) through the kitchen, dining and family areas, and invested in large column radiators downstairs which - along with the log burner - make Blythe Cottage fabulously cosy in winter.

During the summer, we’ve spent blissful evenings in the sun room, with a glass of wine in hand, watching the skies turn a fiery orange as the sun sets over the neighbouring fields. I love the openness of the living space - it is fantastic for entertaining as well as allowing me to keep an eye on the kids playing inside or out.

I was keen to develop the cottage and make the most of what it has to offer, so I secured planning permission to extend the upstairs and take it from four bedrooms to five, with a further en suite and dressing room, and also have the additional permission for an orangery. Sadly, I’ve ran out of time and work commitments demand that I relocate to London. I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to see my plans for Blythe Cottage come to fruition, but I know the planning consents will enable another family to bring their own vision and creativity to this beautiful corner of the countryside, making their own rural dreams come true.
