My parents bought 16 White House Close, from new, in June 1968 when my brother and I were just young children. I remember going over when the house was being built and watching as it grew, from balancing along the foundations to seeing the roof put on, being told that The White House and grounds were formerly owned by Sir Robert & Lady Elizabeth Bird of Bird’s Custard – fancy that.

It was a great place to live. When we were young there was plenty of room to play in the back garden, or out the front. Being at the end of a cul-de-sac, it was always quiet and safe for us to play outside with our friends from the area. As we grew up we realised what a great location it is – the park over the road, schools just a short walk away, the railway station down the road and only a quick walk into Solihull town centre – so close to everything yet such a quiet place to live.

The large house was always warm and cosy with plenty of room for us and any visitors. The neighbours are extremely kind and friendly. So it is no surprise that my parents never wanted to move, even once we had both left and had families of our own.

It is a great wrench to sell this lovely house but we already have homes of our own, so hope that someone else will enjoy living there as much as we all have.
